Step by step

Warm milk to lukewarm, melt butter in it.

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk with 1 tsp sugar.

Mix flour, remaining sugar, salt, vanilla and lemon zest in a bowl.

Add milk mixture, 1 egg and yolk of second egg (reserve white for brushing).

Knead into a smooth dough, let rise 60 min in a warm place.

Divide dough into 3 equal pieces and roll into long strands.

Braid the strands, press ends together firmly.

Place on a tray, let rise another 30 min.

Brush with whisked egg white, sprinkle with pearl sugar.

Bake at 180°C for about 30 min until golden.
