  • Toast bread
    2 slices
  • Cooked ham
    50 g
  • Gruyère 50 g gratedOr: Emmentaler
    as needed
  • Butter
    15 g
  • Flour
    10 g
  • Milk
    80 ml
  • MustardOr: Dijon mustard
    ½ tbsp
  • Nutmeg
    1 pinch
  • Iodized salt
    ¼ tsp
  • Pepper
    ¼ tsp
Method

Step by step

    Preheat oven to 200°C.

    Melt butter in a pot, stir in flour and toast for 1 minute.

    Gradually stir in milk, whisk smooth and reduce to a thick sauce.

    Season with mustard, nutmeg, salt and pepper, remove from heat.

    Spread toast slices thinly with béchamel.

    Top 4 slices with ham and some cheese, place remaining toasts on top.

    Brush sandwiches with béchamel and sprinkle with cheese.

    Bake on a tray 10–12 minutes until golden brown.

    Serve immediately hot.
