Step by step

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk with 1 tbsp sugar and let proof 10 minutes.

Sift flour into a bowl, add remaining sugar, salt, egg, melted butter and yeast milk.

Knead into a smooth dough and let rise 60 minutes.

Form dough into 8–10 balls and let rise another 30 minutes.

In a large pan with lid heat a little butter, milk (3 tbsp per dumpling) and a little salt.

Place dumplings with space between them, cover and cook 25–30 minutes over medium heat.

Do not open the lid until the liquid has evaporated and the bottom is golden and crispy.

Serve hot with vanilla sauce.
